30ha target

The strategy of sustainability adopted by the German government aims to limit the development of settlements and transport infrastructure and thereby the consumption of new land to 30 ha per day by the year 2020. This figure was suggested by the National Council for Sustainable Development in order to sufficiently protect the limited resource “Soil" and to combat the ecological, economic and social repercussions of excessive land consumption. For this reason, officially published land use statistics have calculated the parameter for Settlement and Transportation Infrastructure (SuV) since 2001. While the growth in SuV has slowed over the past few years, there is still no clear sign that the designated goal will be achieved in the near future.
