The Monitor of Settlement and Open Space Development (IOER Monitor) of the Leibniz Institute of Ecological Urban and Regional Development (IOER) provides information on patterns of land use and their development for the whole of the Federal Republic of Germany. The main features are:

  • use of the most precise geo-topographic data for Germany
  • high spatial resolution (raster maps up to 100 m)
  • interactive maps and tables for all indicators
  • customizable map design, storage and transmission of results by e-mail
  • comparison between administrative units and time frames as well as statistical evaluation
  • web-based services to facilitate integration of maps into diverse GIS environments

This expert information system is intended to assist scientists, administrators, practitioners from business and industry as well as the general public to answer questions regarding ground cover and land use. It provides base data for the analysis of land use development, particularly regarding the issue of sustainability.

The IOER Monitor is a permanent scientific service within the framework of the research-based Political and Social Consultation Service of the Leibniz Institute for Ecological Urban and Regional Development (IOER).
