Other sports, leisure and recreation areas

Other sports, leisure and recreation areas are built-up or non built-up areas dedicated to sports, recreation or relaxation. The following functions are possible:   

  • Sports facility: Areas with buildings and technical structures serving the practice of (competitive) sports and to accommodate spectators,
  • Recreational facility: Areas with buildings and technical structures serving the recreational needs of the local population,
  • Zoo: A compound with animal housing and fenced enclosures serving to keep and display animals,
  • Safari park, wildlife park: A compound with fenced enclosures in which animals can be kept and displayed in a natural environment,  
  • Amusement park: A compound with roundabouts, kiosks and show booths and / or wildlife displays that serve the recreational needs of the local population
  • Open-air theatre: Facility with stage and audience seating for outdoor theatrical performances,
  •  Open-air museum: Local history museum in which forms of living or historical trades/activities can be shown in the open air in their natural surroundings; 
  • Drive-in cinema, open-air cinema: Outdoor cinema in which films can generally be viewed from within a car,
  • Airfield for model airplanes: Areas that are used by enthusiasts to fly model airplanes,
  • Swimming pool, open-air pool: Recreational facility with pool or facilities at the banks of a lake to enable recreational or competitive swimming,
  • Camping site: Areas for the erection of a large number of tents or to park/use camping vans and which provide permanent facilities.  

The basic classification of such areas are as settlement space.
